The US healthcare system has long focused on treating illnesses and managing symptoms. However, a growing body of evidence demonstrates that health is influenced by factors far beyond the doctor’s office or hospital. These factors, known as Social Determinants of Health (SDOH), encompass the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work, and age. They include economic stability, education access and quality, social and community context, health care access and quality, and neighborhood and built environment.<\/p>\n

The significance of SDOH is undeniable. They play a crucial role in health outcomes, health disparities, and overall healthcare costs. In fact, research suggests that medical care accounts for only 10-20% of health outcomes, while SDOH account for a staggering 80-90%.
